Preferred Names
Please when possible use the name the student is registered with. Our records come from Housing. Students may submit an additional preferred name (nickname, middle name or something they go by) to Mail Services via an email. This will be added to our package tracking system to help facilitate our efficient mail and package sorting.
Tips on sending your student something from home
- Never send cash
- Never send liquids
- Use tracking when available
- Keep in mind weekend for perishable deliveries (Mail Services only works weekends the first 4 weekends of fall and spring semester
- Students cannot share a mailbox/items addressed to the student will be inbounded for that student and that student will receive the email notification for pickup
Look up Items
Items for students that do not match our system information will be held till the end of day. If you are ordering something for your student and it has your name on it (phones are in the parents name most of the time), please email mailbox@tulane.edu with the updated information. We can include an alert with the tracking number for your student so there is no delay in the process.
Tracking and delivery information
Tulane Mail Services will sign on the students behalf for any items requiring a signature. Some vendors do not require a signature when deliveries are made.
You may get an email that says the item was delivered but your student did not get an email. Along with your students package we get sometimes hundreds at a time. This process takes time but rest assured they will receive the email as soon as Mail Services processes the package.
The emails are immediate and will come from packages@tulane.edu.
Please note that tracking systems used by the USPS do not always indicate when packages are delivered to Tulane Mail Services. In most cases USPS items are scanned as ‘delivered’ or ‘delivered to agent’ before they ever arrive at Tulane Mail Services, generally this happens at the USPS nearby sort facility.
Student’s should wait until they receive an email from packages@tulane.edu before coming to pick up a package.
Prohibited Items
Please note some changes related to restricted items. These items cannot be shipped to Tulane through Mail Services. They will be subject to refusal and returned to the sender. Full details found here
